The Instron
® solution for testing of endosseous
dental implants to ISO 14801 utilizes the
ElectroPuls™ series of all-electric dynamic test instruments. These novel systems feature linear motor technology for performing cyclic loading or fatigue and have 60 mm of stroke that aide static tensile, compression, or flexural tests on implants or dental materials.
The basic ISO 14801 dental implant test fixture provides a fixed method for clamping straight implants with a small degree of lateral adjustment. This fixture can be enhanced with a variable-angle assembly for testing of pre-angled dental implant systems, which allows more degrees of adjusment to suit the particular test. At the upper end, the fixture includes a lateral joint for unconstraining the loading platen and removal of side loading caused by compressive loading of the implant.
For testing of implants where corrosion fatigue is apparent, all of the fixtures can be fitted into a fluid bath and tested at 37° C in normal saline.
