Conduit Systems for Cable Management Underground (EN 50086-2-4)

This method is used to investigate conduit systems buried underground, including conduits and conduit fittings for the protection and management of insulated conductors and/or cables in electrical installations or in communication systems.

The EN 50086-2-4 test method is suitable for use with a range of materials, including metallic, non-metallic and composites.

In principle, the test specimen is compressed along its major axis at constant rate of displacement until the specimen fractures or until the load or the decrease in length reaches a predetermined value. The load sustained by the specimen is measured during this procedure.

We used hardened-steel compression anvils to apply the deformation load to the test specimen. These anvils are fitted to a tensile testing machine, usually of single-column or dual-column table-top design. We suggest using an extensometer that is attached to the test specimen for determining the relative change in length of the appropriate part of the test specimen. By using a materials testing software, like Bluehill® 2, you are able to input specimen details, set the desired test control, automatically calculate the desired results and statistics, and produce a test report all in accordance with the standard.

We suggest reviewing EN 50086-2-4 to fully understand the test fixture and results requirements.
