Challenge

New technologies and the continuous further development of vehicles require constant monitoring of the quality of the components used. In this case, it is necessary to carry out a more targeted inspection of the structural components to obtain a statement about the life expectancy of axle components in as early a development stage as possible. As a condition for production release, a life-time verification has to be made for components and assemblies.

With the Instron Axle Test System we are taking the road to the lab. The Instron Axle Test System reproduces

  • stresses experienced by the axle when in use,
  • drive torque and braking torque introduced to the axle,
  • steering displacement and torque
  • Optionally, corrosive and environmental effects.

Solution

Axle test rigs are used to reproduce in a laboratory test the different loads applied to the axle elements when the vehicle is traveling over a variety of road surfaces. The test rig is capable of introducing into the axle longitudinal forces and side forces encountered during cornering maneuvers, vertical loads resulting from rough road surfaces, as well as braking, steering and camber moments. Instron can provide models for testing of car, van, truck and bus axles with 6 DOF (Degree of Freedom).

Controller Labtronic® 8800ml

Labtronic 8800ml, Instrons new test controller, provides an integrated laboratory solution for all requirements from component tests through to simulation of service loads on full vehicles.

Hydropuls® actuators

Hydropuls hydraulic actuators are used in the full of static and dynamic applications where high precision simulation of movement, forces, strains and accelerations are required.

Power Packs and accessories

A modular range of variable flow hydraulic power supplies are available to service dedicated test systems or to be configured as a central laboratory supply facility. Pipeline solutions are also available to safely distribute the hydraulic supply around the lab.

Sensors

A comprehensive range of fatigue rated precision transducers are available to measure position, force, torque, pressure, strain and acceleration.

Servo valves

To deliver the full range of actuator performance requirements, a range of 2 and 3 stage servo valves with flow rates from 5 liters to 2400 liters/min are available.

RSLabSite modulogic

All you need for your durability tests is the measurement data obtained from the proving ground – RS LabSite® modulogic will do the rest!
